Through the stories of women connected by fly fishing, Alma Mater explores what draws us to the water—and what inspires us to protect it.

Alma Mater, Latin for “nurturing mother,” reflects the relationship at the heart of this film: the natural world sustains us, and we have a responsibility to care for it in return.

Directed by Hilton Graham and brought to life with the support of the Jackson Hole One Fly, this feature documentary explores women’s contributions to fly fishing and conservation. Through personal stories, time on the water, and perspectives spanning generations, the film considers how a love of fishing becomes a commitment to protecting the places we cherish.

Alma Mater honors the women who have helped shape this community and those carrying that work forward, asking what we can each leave for the next generation.

9 Women. One Shared Current.

Anglers, artists, educators, and advocates. The women of Alma Mater come to the water with different experiences and a shared sense of responsibility for its future. Their stories reveal the many forms conservation can take: teaching someone to cast, preserving a history, creating a work of art, or speaking up for a threatened river.

Together, they offer a personal look at what these places give us—and what it means to give something back.
